My “Big Project”

Hi! It’s time to show you my “big project” — 2 large paintings, 25 x 37 inches, of the lighthouse and a little church on Miscou Island. They were a commission so I wanted her to see them first, of course. I delivered them this past weekend and she LOVED them!

Painting this large was a new experience for me — I’d only painted up to 9 x 12 inches before. That meant new paper (a 46 inch wide roll, 10 yards long!), bigger brushes, a larger surface to work on, and learning how to stretch a large piece of watercolour paper! Hint: it involves soaking the paper in the tub then taping it down with special tape onto a wood surface!!

So, needless to say, I’m really happy that my customer was pleased with my work! Of course, the paintings were too large to fit into my scanner, so I took photos of the final paintings (unframed) to share with you. I can’t wait to see how they look once they’re framed and hanging in her home!!

the lighthouse painting looks like it must be a photo, at first glance.

Both paintings are terrific depictions of Miscou.
